Week 5 (20/9/2021) Conceptual poster design
Posters are a conventional medium to convey information to the target audience, they can be cluttered or straightforward. There should be a balanced use of colors, fonts, images etc. so viewers do not get confused. Posters generate awareness on an issue.
When you start brainstorming your poster idea; ask yourself, why are you making this poster. Once you've narrowed down your scope you can start to;
- Research about your topic - study and gather all related info about your topic. Write a summary about your topic. Highlight the key points of your summary.
- Define your concept - Create a section for content (title, slogan, details, etc.), then sketch your mock up poster.
- Start to develop your design projects - Draft the digital poster based on your sketch, develop the composition techniques using Digital Photograph and Graphic Design. Apply color, typography, textures, and effects. Finalize your design with color correction.
Creative poster is made of four key features
- Title - ensure it does not exceed two lines of text.
- Graphic - Context with the main text. Choose high resolution images, >300dpi
- Text
- White/negative space - Creates breathing room. So viewer does not feel overwhelmed by the information being presented.
Layout, flow, and color affect the order and style of these four key features.
- Flow - Flow coordinates with how viewer's eyes move around the different areas of the poster. Maintain hierarchy.
- Color - color draws the reader's gaze, defines the different sections of your poster.
Will my design create an impact?
- What is the purpose of my poster design?
- Am I clearly depicting the idea of my poster design?
- Does my poster convey its message meaningfully and beautifully?
PRACTICAL
Week 5 (20/9/2021) Project 1
When exploring concepts for this final collage, I decided to do that digitally. I created two concepts; Fig 1.1 and Fig 1.2.
Fig 1.1 ; Concept 1 (24/9/2021)
Fig 1.2 ; Concept 2 (24/9/2021)
I decided to go with Concept 2, as I felt Concept 1 did not fill up the space enough. However I still liked the concept of the galaxy coming out of the hand, resulting in Concept 2.
Fig 1.3 ; Final Physical Collage (24/9/2021)
Fig 1.4 ; Final PDF (24/9/2021)

Week 5 (20/9/2021) Recoloring Black and White photograph - Part 1
This is the photo we were given to turn from Black and white, to color.
When working on this assignment, I had place down the flat colors first, and thought that it looked too flat, with no volume/dimension.
